MEDICARE CHANGES ARE COMING

Medicare & Your Chiropractic Care: What You Need to Know for 2026

Big changes are coming to Medicare Advantage (MA) plans in 2026. Over one million Americans— including many of our patients—will be impacted as major insurers exit or reduce coverage for these plans. We want to help you stay informed and maintain uninterrupted access to chiropractic care.

Medicare Basics: Understanding Your Options

Original Medicare:

This is the traditional health coverage offered directly by the federal government, consisting of Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance).

Medicare Advantage (MA) Plans:

Also known as Part C, these are plans offered by private insurance companies. They often include extra benefits (vision, dental, prescription drugs) and

have their own networks and coverage rules.

Medigap (Supplement) Plans:

These are additional policies to help pay costs not covered by Original Medicare—such as copays and deductibles. They’re offered by private insurers.

Medicare & Your Chiropractic Care: What You Need to Know for 2026

What’s Changing in 2026?

  • Many large and small MA plans—including UnitedHealthcare—are leaving the market starting January 1, 2026.

  • If your MA plan is terminated, you must select a new plan or you will automatically revert to Original Medicare without prescription drug coverage or extra benefits.[1]

  • Key enrollment dates:

    • October 15 – December 7, 2025: Standard Medicare open enrollment for most.

    • October 15 – December 31, 2025: Special window for those losing a MA plan to choose a new plan.

    • If moving to Medigap, special “guarantee issue” rights may apply—no medical underwriting required if you act promptly.[1

How Will This Affect Your Chiropractic Coverage?

Original Medicare continues to cover manual manipulation of the spine when medically necessary. Other therapies are generally not covered unless medically justified and billed according to Medicare rules.

MA Plans replacing your current coverage may have different provider networks and rules for chiropractic visits, prior authorization, and number of covered treatments.

Action Needed Now: Review your coverage options, pay close attention to all mailed plan notices, and contact our office with questions about your benefits or for help with plan selection.
